 Purpose of Establishment |
| Korea Public Administration Research Institute was established to monitor public administration issues
that are constantly changing and becoming more complicated. Doing so is the way to develop better public
administration and advance the nation as whole. |
| History |

To meet both scholastic and educational demands and to strengthen
its professional consulting services, the Graduate School of Public
Administration established a research office when the school was
first established in January 1959.
In 1967, this institute was expanded
to become the Public Administration Investigative Research Institute.
In 1990, the institute was renamed
the Korea Public Administration Research Institute, strengthening
its consulting services and including more research topics, such as
public welfare policies. In 2002, Korea
Public Administration Research Institute’s establishment regulations
were altered, and the institute became an independent research institute
within Seoul National University. |
| Organization
and Functions |

The Korea Public Administration Research Institute comprises five departments:
the Local Government Research Center, the Public Enterprise Research Center,
the Unification Policy Research Center, the Public Administration Management
Research Office, and the Administrative Office. The Local Government Research
Center has two offices that conduct local government research and city administration
research. Every center and office has a director. Assistant professors and above may
be appointed directors by the director of the institute. A steering committee was
established to discuss important administrative concerns. |
